In 1993, National Volunteer Fire Council and the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) wrote a paper on recruitment and retention called, “Recruitment and Retention in the Volunteer Fire Service, Problems and Solutions." Thirty years after that paper was written, USFA released a new paper called, “Retention and Recruitment for the Volunteer Emergency Services." These papers were written to address recruitment and retention of volunteer responders in fire and EMS. The principles also have direct correlation to effective methods of recruiting and retaining paid firefighters. This presentation will offer multiple tools to improve your agency.
